Community Server needs to improve their RSS feed with GeoRSS
This is the last post of the year, in that post, I would like to open a thread about GeoRSS and the question of why Community Server does not support that kind of feed.
GeoRSS is being around for ever, however no blogs allows users to read the data with GeoRSS, we still use standard RSS to subscribe. GeoRSS will also give us the same functionality plus a location on a map, so a point or geometry to pin the blog to a map.
The difference between RSS and GeoRSS is the location is embedded on the feed:
<georss:where> <gml:Point> <gml:pos>45.256 -71.92</gml:pos> </gml:Point> </georss:where>
So the user can use a map instead of a reader in order to follow the blogs, displaying the blogs geographically.
I do believe that Community Server could take advantage and add a way on the blog options to add a location per post.
Next weekend I'll be working on a Http Handler the returns GeoRSS for Community Server, the feed will be limited by only one location per blog, not per post.
Cheers
Al
UPDATE: GeoRSS for Community Server can be found here

This is very interesting - I'd love to see GeoRSS added to Community Server. For a single location for the entire blog, you can put the GeoRSS element in the RSS/Atom channel.
Mapufacture is a GeoRSS aggregator that could then be used to mix together Community Server feeds with other feeds.
