Using Perl to compile the CLR?
The CLR for Windows XP only source code can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=8C09FD61-3F26-4555-AE17-3121B4F51D4D&displaylang=en
Microsoft for some reason decided to release it to anybody that wants to look. There are a few things that while downloading makes me a little worried:
System Requirements
- Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP Service Pack 2
On Windows you will need:
- Windows XP SP2.
- Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2005.
- Perl 5.8.7 (available from http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Downloads/ActivePerl/.)
- Archiving utility of choice—WinZip or other.
- 256 MB of memory.
- One gigabyte of free disk space.
I need Perl to compile the CLR? Are you as scare as I am? I really hope there is a good reason to install Perl besides to compile the CLR ;-) Maybe this explains the garbage collection.
Cheers
Al
