Last week, I was really busy at home, as we had to replace all the flooring upstairs in my house due my oldest daughter's allergies. not that I had to do it myself, but the house was a mess and I had no time to blog or read all the emails or your comments, my apologies for that. Now the work has been completed and no carpet can be found in the Pascual family household, let's go back to my regular programming of random thoughts and news that you already knew.

Microsoft Surface isn't new on the concept of the touch screen, I've seen it before in other demos as a new step towards getting away from the old mouse.  Surface is asking me to move my hands more than a few inches to work. So why are they providing me in exchange?

There are many videos available in the web presenting this new exciting product, when you see the videos you can imagine where you can use this technology, and as you, I envisions a Microsoft Surface in every household in the far future, the product will be created as a table in the main family room for the kids to do the homework as you downloading the pictures for the family to choice witch one we save or delete. I see writing my blog while my daughter draws a picture or plays a game on Play House Disney . And having to move my "workspace" around the table to allow my kids to almost take over the whole table. The family dynamics changed so much this past 10 years by the introduction of the home computer and home network. I, for one, I would like a more interaction between the family as we use the computer. I can assure you that if Microsoft releases the Microsoft Surface for a price that I can convince my wife to buy, I would go running to Best Buy and get one, with the extended warranty, of course.

I do believe in teaching my children how to use the computer at an early age, my first daughter knew how to use the mouse at age 3, my youngest, even being only one year old, she can destroy any blog I am trying to type. My wife uses the computer for financing, cooking and Internet all day long, and many windows are open in the computers around the house. I would like centralize all that in my living room table and engage all my family to use it all together and share the information. Even if was only for a family night game of Monopoly or to use it as the TV remote control. One point of communication in the house where all computers derive from. Or a post it area instead of the fridge to remind my kids to finish their homework or to cut the grass. Even for the family calendar/schedule to be kept, and you know if you got kids how important that calendar is. One table to rule them all, one table to bind us!

Now to come back to reality, this is the starting point of a great step in technology. Microsoft is making this possible and bringing it to your home. Do not expect to be able to purchase this item in the near future. As every new thing, the first version won't be what you expecting, many other version will come out after, until the price will lower and the capabilities will acceptable.

I believe the first release will be a demo costing you between $5,000 to $10,000, as everything else, like the first PCs, Tivos or laptops, the price will come down if finds a market interested in the device.

In 5 years from today, I blog again, to see if I was right or wrong. Wouldn't be nice to have reminders on blogs?

Cheers

Al
