Maybe over my head again thinking that there are more hours left in the day where I have time for a new project, then again is better start a project and deal with the time restrictions later on.

I would like to write an starter kit for a media web site, still do not know if would be video and audio or just video, that's why I call it media. I would like to create a very simple YouTube. So people can download the source code a publish a very simple place where people can upload videos for other people to download and stream, hopefully not in my bandwidth. So far I got the list of requirements to the minimum, the list will grow as I gather ideas and knowledge:

User Section

- Allow users to register for an account.

- Allow registered users to upload media

- Allow registered users to rate media

- Non registered users can view media only

- Use membership provider standards per user

Media Section

- Keep counter of media views

- RSS per user, new media

- Search for media only

- Most viewed media, most recent media section

- Media can be tag in order to classify the media

- Check the format of the media and the size

Development

- VS2008 will be used to develop

- MS AJAX 1.0 template, no other controls the required a developer license

- Silverlight might be use for media player

- Look and feel show be close to Community Server or Blogs

- HttpHandlers will be use for RSS, users, media names, etc …

Still there are many unknowns to deal with as well I would like to find more people that is willing to work in the project for free. Mainly I need a guy to create one or two themes and skins for the project. If you interested, please drop me an email or leave a comment on this post.

A very important part of the solution should be the embedded video player. I have been looking to a Silverlight project from Steve Marx, hopefully with his permission, I should be able to use it. If you have find another open source video viewer, please let me know.

Cheers

Al
