On March 17, Apple presented the blueprint for iPhone OS 3.0, the next version of the world’s most advanced mobile platform. In addition to previewing its innovative features. No word on the actual release, or at least no plans that means to release it to the public anytime soon. The rumor is that is coming out April 17th.

Yet Apple still talking about releasing the new iPhone OS 3.0 this June 12

This is Apple’s response to the furious mobile market.

  • Peer to peer: using bluetooth, bonjour, not just games and Api. Connect your iPhones to share information without having to send it by email.
  • Accessories : Write apps for your accessory hardware, as well in bluetooth. Now you can control devices or write an application to better managed that Apple compatible device.
  • Maps: Embed Google maps into your applications. In other words, developers will be able to use an API to add location without having to call the Google Maps outside application. What that means?
    • Turn by turn direction applications API.
  • Push Notification API for your applications. Optimized for mobile networks to preserve performance as well as battery life.
    • Batch push notification
    • Push sound
    • Push Text
  • Better model for the battery life. Every release we get that promise, yet with Push Technology I believe we are going to see many people purchasing mobile recharges.
  • iPod library API, now your apps have access to the music on the users library.
  • Copy and paste, by holding the finger on the screen, shake the iPhone to undo! Took Apple a long time to provide the most requested feature for the iPhone, yet I believe they got it right.
  • Send more than one picture at the time, or at least select more than one photo, works across applications.
  • Finally landscape keyboard for email, so now I can send more than 2 words on an mobile email, that means I’ll have to reply more than just yes/no.
  • SMS messages can be forward and delete individual messages.
  • Multimedia support (MMS) Send and receive media files. Locations, audio, contacts, etc … From the SMS application.
  • New app called Voice Memos with internal microphone or external microphone and send it with MMS.
  • New improvements to calendar, adding the CalDAV share calendar and subscriptions calendar. My wife and I we have been looking forever to get a shared calendar without much hassle, now here it is!.
  • Improved Stocks application to add the news of the stock and landscape view. With the new customizing the stocks app can get deleted.
  • You can now search in all iPhone OS 3.0 applications and across your phone.
  • Shake to shuffle the music on your iPhone. Yes the iPod has it but I prefer a button really.
  • Stereo Bluetooth finally. Time to purchase a bluetooth stereo system for the whole house.
  • photo[1]Parental controls as well on the iPhone, yeah who purchases an iPhone for their kids?

No that my kids are too young, my kids are Microsoft kids! ;-)

  • Tethering, my most waited feature, so I can have Internet on my laptop anywhere I go. AT&T didn’t release the price on that feature, but I’m sure they are going to make us paid for it. I’ll pay for it.
  • Video Recording as well!

Well, that’s the list I have been keeping track of, any changes or news, please let me know. Any ideas of the release date will be great as well.

Cheers

Al
