Another year comes and my favorite event from ESRI comes to Palm Springs to provide GIS developers with knowledge and show them the new tools. This year the big release was the Microsoft Silverlight API for ArcGIS Server. Great question for Wednesday morning came from the keynote; “REST or SOA?”

Silverlight 101 Presentation

The busiest presentation was the Silverlight API 101 hosted by Art Haddad and Rex Hansen that wow us with a great demo to show the simplicity of that powerful API.

Integrating the Web ADF with Silverlight.

The .NET Server developers showing how to integrate Silverlight inside ASP.NET controls. A good way to bring some iCandy with ASP.NET or ADF for richer controls. Now I was expecting Silverlight using ADF tasks and SOAP to fulfill the gap.

Advance Flex API. 

Mansour Raad Flex presentations with a Wii remote control were high energy demos going deep into the concept of the Flex API for ArcGIS Server.

Presentation about the GeoWeb

Dave Bouwman presentation about keeping it simple on the geo web, make it easy and simple for the non GIS user to complete their task, good message delivered to the developers that still add the TOC into their web applications.

All were great presentations, some speakers better than others, yet all content was interesting and gave developers a good starting point for building their applications.

A great conference that this year Twitter was an important factor on the overall experience by using the hash tag #devsummit

Lots of content is provided and every year the conference gets bigger, I enjoy going to talk to users and see what are they developing, more of the time you realize how big projects are out there in GIS and the patterns that are being followed as well as the architecture.
